Helping out as an adult volunteer in Scouting is easy, fun and flexible. How much time you give is completely up to you and no matter how you get involved, we’ll make sure you’re properly trained and supported.

Scouts is the UK’s biggest mixed youth organisation and every year we help 450,000 young people enjoy new adventures; to experience the outdoors; interact with others, gain confidence and have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Working alongside our youth members are thousands of adult volunteers, with a huge variety of roles and opportunities available.

Scouts take part in activities as diverse as kayaking, abseiling, expeditions overseas, photography, climbing and zorbing (rolling downhill inside a gigantic “hamster” ball made of transparent plastic).

Scouts also learn survival skills, first aid, computer programming, or even how to fly a plane. There’s something for every young person. It’s a great way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express their creativity and experience the wider world.

This everyday adventure is possible thanks to our adult volunteers, who support Scouts in a wide range of roles from working directly with young people, to helping manage a Group, to being a charity Trustee. We help volunteers get the most out of their experiences at Scouts by providing opportunities for adventure, training, fun and friendship.

Our award-winning training scheme for volunteers means that adults get as much from Scouts as young people. Our approach focuses on what you want to get out of volunteering with Scouts. Over 90% of Scout volunteers say that their skills and experiences have been useful in their work or personal life.

Please watch our “Think You Know Scouting? Think Again” video on this page to see why becoming an adult volunteer will help you to: Get Qualifications; Learn New Skills; Explore The Outdoors; Have Fun; Help Out Your Local Community.
